... First thing I'll count lucky is that this food ain't poisoned. I hope.

[Yeah, he still looks about the Milkman's sadistic games from last month.]

But ... I'll admit, food in Mayfield's been a nice change from'a MREs an' rations I've been livin' off of for seven years.

It's not bad when you make it yourself, but most of the time the drones are bland cooks.

Pfft. Even their food's better than some of'a stuff we got back home.

I'll take coffee burned to'a glass any day over Coffite.

Prolly not. But it was'a closest thing we had'a real stuff after Earth fell.

One of'a popular theories is that'a few seeds taken from Earth to keep a crop going were used by some dumbass to brew one last cup of coffee. So we got stuck with'a crap'a Cormans've been makin' instead.

I think I'd die. Coffee is kind of an essential thing for me.

Tell me about it. If I need a pick-me-up quick I usually hafta get it from adrenaline shots. But that's not'a same thing.

[Beat. Then he adds a little hastily,]

Aaaaand they're not really meant to be used all'a time.

Hmm... Wine. -She takes the bottle, curiously.- Yanno, I never drank much. Never had a taste for it.

Yeah? Wine, I never tried. What about beer, though? Same for you?

Too difficult to make and keep stored on my planet. Most of what we had was mash liquor made from whatever could grow.

[Balin chuckles.]

We've had'a get creative on'at, too. Guess I should be lucky Foreas is kinda Earth-like at least, but boy there is some bizarre plant shit out there.

[He glances at the wine bottle again.]

Well—wanna give it a shot?

Well... Why not? What's the worst that could happen? -FAMOUS. LAST. WORDS.-

[At least Balin doesn't have his nuclear powers right now!]

Beats me. Let's find out!

-Decorked, and two glasses poured.- Here's to trying new things.

[After Virginia's poured the two of them summa dat wine, Balin lifts his own glass and clinks it against Virginia's in response to her toast.]

To tryin' new things!

[And he'll take a big gulp from his glass, the kind that would make any professional wine taster cringe. He grimaces slightly, but Balin's been to the tavern at Fort Defiance enough that he's used to the taste of alcohol, and can appreciate the rest of the flavors more readily.]

... Not that bad!

-And Ginny's is honestly not much better. These two are the fucking classiest.-
